Vihiga Governor Wilber Ottichilo has suspended Vihiga county governor’s scholarship that has been befitting needy students from the county.

In his State of the County address last week the governor said he has put to an end the programme and the funds that have been allocated to it will be diverted to support early childhood and development education (ECDE) as well as technical institutions in the county.

Ottichilo did not clarify if those who are already on the scholarship will continue being supported.

Currently the fund has been supporting more than 400 students from poor families through the scholarship.

“ We have suspended the County governor’s scholarship and the funds will be diveted to promoting ECDE and TVETs,” said Governor Ottichilo.

The KCPE candidates who passed their just released exams and were waiting to benefit from Vihiga county.

 “We have been shocked to hear that governor Ottichilo has suspended County governor’s scholarship. We have many children who have passed their KCPE exams and the move by governor suspending the scholarship is a big blow to poor parents,” said Elinah Mboya from Emuhaya.

Early this year, Ottichilo had assured parents that his administration would continue supporting bright students from poor families through scholarship and bursaries.
