At least four girls aged between two and 12 have been defiled by their fathers, while another five-year-old girl was defiled and murdered by an unknown person in the last week.

Though police reports indicate a surge in such cases, the figures remain largely unreliable due to under-reportage caused by a culture of secrecy and related cultural inhibitions.

In Sokomoko village of Trans Nzoia West Sub-County, a five-year-old girl was defiled and later murdered by an unknown person on the evening of Saturday, August 2, 2025.

The mother said the child had gone to fetch water from a nearby stream but never came back.

This prompted a search, and the body was found in a nearby maize plantation. The deceased’s mother, Elcy Nafula, 29, identified the body.

Efwin Kae, the Saboti Location acting Chief, said the body was transferred to Kiminini Cottage Mortuary as detectives launched investigations.

“The suspect behind the heinous act is yet to be identified, but DCI detectives from Trans Nzoia West have launched investigations,” police said.

Arrests

The same day in the same county, about 40km away, a two-year-old girl was also defiled by her father in Kachibora village in Trans Nzoia East Sub-County.

The victim’s mother told the police that at around 3 pm, she went back to her home from a neighbour’s house where she works as a casual labourer and found her daughter lying unconscious on the ground.

The husband claimed that the child had been knocked down by a sheep.

They then rushed the child to Cherangany Sub-County Hospital, where the doctors, upon examination, confirmed that the child had been defiled.

“The husband then tried to escape but was arrested by the members of the public who handed him over to officers from Cherangany Police Station,” a police citation reads.

The victim was transferred to Kijana Wamalwa Hospital in a critical condition.

In Emali town in Nzaui, Makueni County, a three-year-old girl was also defiled by an unknown person on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The victim’s parents reported that the girl was playing outside Kiddies Salon together with her friends when she was lured by an unknown person who took her away and defiled her.

The child went back and reported to the parents.

“The victim was escorted to Emali Sub-County hospital, where she was examined, and the doctors confirmed that she had been defiled and Post Rape Care (PRC) and P3 forms filled,” police said.

Detectives have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

In Got Odongo Village of Seme in Kisumu County, an 18-year-old was also arrested for defiling his seven-year-old niece, who is a Grade One pupil at a local school.

The matter was reported by the Village Elder, Joshua Otieno Agingu, to the police, who rushed to the scene and arrested the individual.

“Both the suspect and the victim were taken to Kombewa County Hospital for examination, and the suspect later charged before Kombewa Court,” police said.

In the Mogonga area of Kenyenya in Kisii County, a five-year-old girl was defiled by her father in Oroche village on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The father, aged 35, took the victim inside the house on the pretext of giving her money to buy mandazi.

The victim’s elder brother went inside the house and found the father defiling the girl.

“The father escaped and warned the son not to reveal what had happened. The victim was rushed to Mogonga Medical Centre, where she was admitted and discharged the following day,” police said.

Officers attached to Magena Police Station added that they had launched a manhunt for the father who escaped.

In Soin Sigowet Sub-County, a boy aged six and a Grade One pupil at a local school was also defiled by another boy.

The victim said he was fetching firewood when he was lured by the individual into a maize plantation where he was defiled. He reported the incident to the mother, who later reported it to the Sondu police station.

He was then rushed to Sigowet Sub-County General Hospital. By August 4, 2025, the victim had not yet been arrested.

In Rutune location of Mukurweini in Nyeri County, a 43-year-old man was arrested for defiling his daughter, aged 12, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Officers from Kangurwe police station raided Nguyoini village following the report and arrested Stephen Irungu Maina.

He was later transferred to Mukurweini police station before being charged in court.

Serial rapist

On Saturday, August 2, 2025, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen directed chiefs and their assistants in Kajiado County to help police hunt down a serial rapist who has been terrorising locals.

An increase in defilement and rape cases in Magadi and Majengo areas of Kajiado County has alarmed residents and leaders alike.

“No one gets lost in Kenya. The Chief knows everything. Let us get the guy within seven days and settle the matter,” the CS said during the Jukwaa La Usalama engagement.

He added: “How can somebody defile children and continue roaming in the neighbourhood like it’s normal?”

He was responding to locals who complained that the suspect was not being arrested, yet his whereabouts was known.
