Bungoma senator Wafula Wakoli has decried lack of drugs and other essential items in county hospitals.

The senator regretted that despite the county receiving enough funds from the exchequer, Kenyans continued dying because of lack of drugs.

Speaking after a meeting with the County Assembly Committee on Health, Wakoli lamented that most facilities also lacked running water.

“It is regrettable that we are losing our people because of lack of drugs and running water in our facilities and yet the county has enough money to buy the essential items,” he lamented.

The Ford Kenya senator also wondered how the health facilities lacked water and yet the county had a rig to drill it.

“What is the work of the rig if we still don’t have water in our facilities? Wakoli posed.
The senator said the county government flagged off drugs recently yet they were still missing in health centres.

“From now henceforth, the committee on health should be auditing drugs being flagged off by the county government as it seems there is some foul play going on in the county,” he said.

Committee chair George Makari said they were going to summon senior county government officials over the challenges in the department.
