‘Joining G20 will increase Africa’s influence on global stage’ – Ruto
President William Ruto now claims that the inclusion of Africa in the G20 will increase the continent’s vice and influence on global matters.
The announcement was made on Saturday by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a statement shared via his official X account (formerly Twitter), Ruto affirmed that Kenya had welcomed the decision since it would provide a platform to advance the continent’s common interest.
The President also said that the latest move is in line with the resolutions of the recently concluded Africa Climate Summit (ACS).
“Kenya welcomes the addition of the African Union, the fastest growing continent in the world to the G20. This will increase the voice of Africa, visibility, and influence on the global stage and provide a platform to advance the common interest of our people,” Ruto stated.
“This fits perfectly with the resolutions of the just-concluded Africa Climate Summit, including the reform of international financial institutions and multilateral development banks,” he added.

African Union (AU) chairperson Moussa Faki also welcomed the decision noting that the continent’s inclusion in the G20 will help amplify advocacy in Africa.
“I welcome the African Union’s entry into the #G20 as a full member. This membership, for which we have long been advocating, will provide a propitious framework for amplifying advocacy in favour of the Continent and its effective contribution to meeting global challenges,” he stated.
