President William Ruto has promised that his government will build information and communication (ICT) hubs at every ward level in the country in order to employ more youth.

Ruto, while addressing members of the public at the Chebango area in Bomet County on Sunday, July 21, 2024, said this programme will enable his government to create more jobs and ease the unemployment problem.

“Programme yetu ni kuhakikisha vijana wanapata ajira na sasa tutahakikisha kila ward tutajenga ICT hub.

“Na hapa Bomet mko na bahati kwa sababu tuko na mpango kubwa ya kujenga kiwanda ya teknolojia kwa sababu watu wa Bomet wako chonjo mbaya sana. 

“Si mnasikia kuna hawa watu saa zingine wanafika uko kwa M-Pesa ya watu na mnajua vile wanafanya. Sasa tunataka badala ya kuenda kwa M-Pesa ya watu, tunataka tuwafunze teknolojia watusaidie kujenga uchumi ya Kenya using technical platforms.

“Mnasema mtanyorosha hio kazi mpaka ikae chonjo?” he asked.

Ruto’s promise of more jobs for the youth comes at a time when he is under pressure from Gen Z, who have placed a number of demands, including his resignation.

Health policy

Meanwhile, the Head of State also explained the health porgrammes that the government is putting in place to ensure efficient services to the public.

“Vile vile, mimi nataka niwaelelze ya kwamba programme yetu ya Universal Health Coverage (UHC) na kwa counties tayari tuko na health promoters elfu moja na mia tisa. Tumesema kila kijiji lazima kuwe na muuguzi ili tuweze kukabiliana na mambo ya afya kule mashinani.

“Saa hizi, tunataka kila Mkenya ajisajili kwa Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) kupitia kwa Social Health Authority. Ndio tuhakikishe tuko na rekodi ya kila mtu ili tuone vile matibabu itafikia kila Mkenya.

“Ili pia tuweke makadirio ya kutosha, ili tuhakikishe kwamba mipango yetu inahusu kila Mkenya,” he added.

While emphasizing the need for citizens to register under the SHIF programme, Ruto revealed the existence of a programme meant to deal with chronic illnesses in the country.

“Bado tunapoteza Wakenya wengi ambao tungeweza kuwatibu kwa sababu hakuna mpango ya kutosha. Hii ndio kwa sababu tulibadilisha sheria na sasa tuko na sheria mara nne ya kusimamia mambo ya afya.

“Never again will we lose any citizen hata wale wako na cancer, diabetes na hypertension, pia tumeweka mpango ya Chronic Illness Fund. Hao pia watashughulikiwa, wataenda hosiptali, watatibiwa na wataenda nyumbani bila kuulizwa pesa ya yoyote,” he concluded.

Ruto’s promise of efficiency in the health docket comes days after he nominated Deborah Mlango as the Cabinet Secretary for Health.
