President William Ruto has met with leaders from Meru County to discuss strengthening the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party at the grassroots level through participatory and democratic elections beginning at the polling centre.

In a statement posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the President said the meeting brought together Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, 11 Members of Parliament and 67 of the county’s 69 Members of the County Assembly. He described the engagement as focused on both party strengthening and service delivery.

“Met leaders from Meru County, led by Governor Isaac Mutuma, at State House Nairobi, in the company of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki,” Ruto said.

He noted that discussions centred on reinforcing UDA’s structures from the lowest level through inclusive internal elections, starting at the polling centre. According to the President, the aim is to entrench participatory and democratic party processes that reflect the will of ordinary members.

“Our discussions with the 11 MPs and 67 of the county’s 69 MCAs focused on strengthening our political party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at the grassroots through participatory and democratic elections beginning at the polling centre,” he said.

Transformation agenda

Beyond party matters, Ruto said the leaders reviewed the government’s transformation agenda in Meru County, with a focus on fast-tracking priority programmes expected to spur economic growth and improve livelihoods.

“We also deliberated on the transformation agenda we are undertaking in Meru County and ways of speeding up priority programmes and projects that will drive growth and improve livelihoods,” he said.

During the session, Ruto further highlighted several major projects already in progress across the county.

“Key projects already underway include the KSh1 billion upgrading of Meru County Hospital into a national referral facility, electricity connection for 30,000 households, 17 modern markets, several affordable housing projects, and key roads among others,” he stated.

He further announced that construction of major infrastructure projects will begin shortly.

“Shortly, the construction of a new and majestic Nithi Bridge and 17km Meru Town Bypass, at a cost of KSh3 billion, will begin,” Ruto concluded.
