Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister, Pratt Kristina Kenyatta, was among the distinguished Kenyans awarded national honours by President William Ruto during an extension of Jamhuri Day ceremony held at State House, Nairobi, on Friday, December 12, 2025.

Ruto awarded Kristina Pratt the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya, Second Class (E.G.H.), one of Kenya’s highest honours, to individuals who have made exemplary contributions to national development and leadership.

National awards

Pratt was recognised for her long-standing advocacy and public service.

Pratt served as Chairperson of Kenya’s National Fund for the Disabled (NFDK) for over two decades, appointed in 2002, leading efforts in providing assistive devices, funding infrastructure (ramps, classrooms, boreholes) for PWDs, and advocating for their economic inclusion.

Though she was recently replaced by President Ruto in September 2025, ending a long tenure of significant advocacy for persons with disabilities in Kenya.

“In recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, confer Awards and Honours to the following persons,” President Ruto said in the gazette notice.

President Ruto stated that the honours reflect Kenya’s commitment to acknowledging citizens who have demonstrated integrity, hard work, and dedication to the nation.

He emphasised that national awards are not symbolic gestures, but clear affirmations that “hard work, honesty, and service do not go unnoticed.”

Awards significance

According to the president, the awards speak to the deeper values that shape the nation: doing what is right, prioritising the collective good, and nurturing a country that future generations can be proud of.

Attorney-General Dorcas Oduor
Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo Gitau (Information, Communications and the Digital Economy)
Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui (Trade and Industry)
Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry)

Joining Kristina Kenyatta in the honours list was Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu, also recognised for his public service and leadership.

The ceremony highlighted President Ruto’s message that national progress is built on the shoulders of those who commit their time, skills, and energy to serving Kenya. The honours, he said, are a reminder that the country thrives when integrity and patriotism guide public duty.
