Richard Onyonka’s mother to be interred in Kisii in a private ceremony
Teresia Nyaboke Onyonka, the mother of outspoken Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, will be interred in Kisii in a private funeral ceremony to be held at her home.
This announcement was made by Kitutu Chache South MP Antony Kibagendi during the visitation of several leaders drawn from different political divides, led by Education Cabinet Secretary Migosi Ogamba, on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
Kibagendi, who will also be the MC during the funeral, provided the itinerary, stating that a major fundraising will take place at All Saints Cathedral from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

He further stated that the body of the late will leave Nairobi very early in the morning for Kisii on Thursday, May 14, 2026, where a mass will be held at Nyabururu at 2:00 pm, and viewing of the body will also take place.
On the following day, which will be the burial day, the body of the late will be taken to Mosocho, where the funeral ceremony will take place. Thereafter, a private interment ceremony will be held at her home, where only family members will be allowed to conduct the final rites.
“The following day we will move to Mosocho, where the funeral ceremony will take place at Monak Grounds. After that, the body of the late will head home for a private interment ceremony, where the family will be allowed to carry out the final rites,” Kibagendi stated.
Onyonka’s mother’s death

Onyonka‘s mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, passed away while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital, a hospital in Nairobi.
In a statement on his official Facebook account on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Onyonka confirmed that Mama Teresia passed away aged 81.
“I regret to announce the passing on of my beloved mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke, who departed this life today at the age of 81 years while receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi,” Onyonka said.
While eulogising her mother, Senator Onyonka described her as a devoted mother, a pillar of strength to our family, and a woman of great faith, humility, and wisdom.
