Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, took his political consultations to Wajir ahead of his highly anticipated announcement.

Raila, who was in the company of Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, was received by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi.

Taking to his official X account, Governor Abdullahi, who also serves as the Council of Governors Chairperson, revealed that the former Prime Minister had engaged with the grassroots in his consultative mission.

“Welcomed the Right Honorable Raila Odinga to Wajir County as he engaged with the grassroots in his consultative mission,” Governor Abdullahi stated.

Raila’s consultations

Raila has intensified meetings with party members in select regions as he prepares for a potential partnership with President William Ruto.

The sessions are also seen as an effort to regain full control of his ODM party after temporarily handing over its leadership to Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o last year.

Raila had entrusted Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o with the ODM party’s leadership in October 2024 while he focused on his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

On March 4, 2025, Raila was in the coastal region, where he engaged the people of Kwale County.

Raila in Kwale

His tour of Kwale came after he had completed a similar engagement with the people of Kilifi and Mombasa counties.

The ODM party, through a post shared via X, revealed that Raila’s tour of Kwale was aimed at listening to the views of the people.

“After successful consultations with the people of Mombasa and Kilifi on the way forward for Kenya, today (March 4, 2025), we head to Kwale County to listen to the views of the people of this great county,” ODM posted on its official X page.

Since his unsuccessful AUC bid, Raila has held meetings in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori, Homa Bay, Busia, Kilifi, Kwale, and now Wajir, ramping up his consultations before announcing his next political move.

Raila announced that he would embark on consultations across the country on Monday, February 24, 2025, during an address in Mombasa when he was hosted by President William Ruto following his return to the country from a brief rest in Dubai.

“We are available for Africa, but more importantly, we are available for Kenya. I’m back home here. I’m going to meet with my friends and supporters. I’m going to consult widely for the next step forward, and in due process we will confirm our way forward and announce it,” Raila said.
