Raila promises major announcement as he engages Kisumu leaders

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, held high-level consultations in Kisumu, engaging with Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o at City Hall.
The former prime minister further held a meeting with local ODM officials and youth representatives from across the county.
He emphasized the importance of democracy and youth participation in governance, highlighting the role young people play in shaping Kenya’s future.
Raila, who began his consultative meeting in Kisumu, stated that he began his meeting by engaging elders from across the region.
He assured his supporters that before making any final decisions, he would conduct extensive consultations beyond Nyanza, engaging different regions across the country.
“I will not confine myself to Nyanza alone.After this, I will visit other parts of Kenya,” he said.
The former premier who is currently in a broad-based government arrangement with President William Ruto announced that he would have concluded his consultation tour by next week, upon which which he will make a major political statement.
Next generation of leaders
Raila, in a statement shared via his official social media accounts, stated that their discussions also centered on key national issues and strategies to empower the next generation of leaders.
“Kisumu Dala! I held consultations with Prof. @AnyangNyongo at City Hall today. We later listened to ODM local officials and youth representatives from across Kisumu County, engaging on their views on critical affairs of the country and reaffirming our commitment to democratically empower the next generation of leaders. Asante Kisumu for the warm welcome!” Raila said in a statement posted on his official Facebook account.
Raila’s consultations
Raila’s engagements in Kisumu come just a day after he promised to consult widely and wisely before announcing the way forward for his supporters.
Raila made the revelation on Monday, February 24, 2025, during an address in Mombasa when he was hosted by President William Ruto following his return to the country from a brief rest in Dubai.
“We are available for Africa, but more importantly, we are available for Kenya. I’m back home here. I’m going to meet with my friends and supporters. I’m going to consult widely for the next step forward, and in due process we will confirm our way forward and announce it,” Raila said.
