Pumwani hospital issued with title deed

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has moved to address land wrangles at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital by issuing the facility with a title deed.
The move comes as a relief for the facility which has been operating on an expired lease.
“Issuing Pumwani maternity with a title will keep off grabbers. This facility, despite its significant role in our society, has been operating without a title deed,” Sakaja said yesterday.
In 2016, City Hall revealed that 15 acres meant for the expansion of the hospital had been grabbed.
The then Nairobi Health Executive Benard Muya revealed that the hospital only sat on five acres of its original 20.
He said grabbers had hived off 15 acres meant to host the Intensive Care Unit, main hospital blocks A and B, ablution block, operating theatre, mortuary, children’s playground and houses for doctors and other healthcare providers.
Sakaja (pictured right) also issued a title deed for Ndakaini dam.
The ownership of Ndakaini dam has been the subject of discussion with both Murang’a and Nairobi counties fighting for the land.
Various social halls, public primary schools and playgrounds also received the ownership documents.
