PS Sing’oei meets DRC foreign minister over Congo crisis

Principal Secretary (PS) of Foreign Affairs Korir Singoei on Saturday, March 15, 2025, met DRC Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner in efforts to escalate rapid measures to quell the conflict in the Congo.
In his statement shared via his official X account, Korir expressed that he was honoured to exchange views on the situation and asserted his enthusiasm in stabilizing the situation in the conflict-stricken country.
“Honored to exchange views with H.E. Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner foreign minister of DRC on the sidelines of the ministers’ meeting on the situation in DRC. I am persuaded the Nairobi-Luanda merged process under the expanded facilitation framework can stabilize this critical region,” he said.

The ongoing conflict involving M23 fighters backed by Rwanda and Congolese government has seen extensive violence which has left several dead on the streets. As of January, hospital facilities lamented over the situation stating that they were struggling to deal with the increasing number of casualties.
During the month, 17 people were killed and a section of embassies including the Kenyan Embassy in Kinshasa were attacked.
At the time, PS Sing’oei condemned the attack and voiced concern over the situation urging the DRC government to intervene. The persistent attacks on human life and infrastructure by the M23 rebels, followed even after President Felix Tshikedi convened a meeting with key leaders to address the crisis.
Despite the mounting efforts to address the situation from both local and regional leaders in East Africa, the rebels have continued to gain significant positions in Goma where thousands of residents have been forced to vacate.
