Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei has dismissed speculation that he intends to vie for an elective seat in the 2027 General Election.

While responding to the claims via a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, July 20, 2026, Sing’Oei said his focus remains on serving in government and advancing Kenya’s interests on the global stage.

The Principal Secretary has categorically denied reports linking him to any political ambitions ahead of the next General Election.

He urged Kenyans to treat such reports as false.

“Just to be clear: I have no interest in seeking any elective office in 2027. I am singularly focused on advancing Kenya’s interests in my current position, advancing select community initiatives and supporting the realization of the government’s transformative agenda. Treat any information to the contrary as false,” Sing’Oei said.

His remarks come amid growing speculation on social media and political circles that he could be preparing to join elective politics in 2027, with a sight on the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat..

Focus remains on Foreign Affairs

Sing’Oei said he remains fully committed to his responsibilities as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

Since his appointment by President William Ruto in 2022, the PS has become one of Kenya’s most visible government officials, frequently representing the country in bilateral and multilateral engagements.

He has played a key role in articulating Kenya’s foreign policy, strengthening diplomatic relations, negotiating international agreements and defending the country’s position on regional and global issues.

His active presence on social media and regular public commentary on foreign policy matters have also made him one of the most recognisable principal secretaries in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Puts speculation to rest

Sing’Oei’s statement appears aimed at ending speculation that he could contest a Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat during the 2027 elections, having replied to an X user who had shared a 2022 election poster in which the PS had expressed interest in the seat.

The clarification comes as political activity continues to intensify across the country, with several senior government officials, former Cabinet Secretaries and public servants either declaring their political ambitions or being linked to various elective positions.

In recent months, several politicians have publicly announced plans to seek office in 2027, while others have been forced to issue statements denying similar claims.

Community initiatives to continue

While ruling out elective politics, Sing’Oei indicated that he will continue supporting community development initiatives alongside his government responsibilities.

He said he remains committed to advancing “select community initiatives” while supporting the implementation of President William Ruto’s development agenda.

The PS did not elaborate on the specific community programmes he is involved in but emphasised that these efforts should not be interpreted as preparations for a political campaign.
