Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP) has officially stepped up preparations for the 2027 General Election after launching a nationwide recruitment drive targeting aspiring governors, senators, women representatives, Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

The party, through a series of posters shared on its official social media platforms on Monday, July 20, 2026, invited Kenyans seeking elective office to join PLP, describing itself as “the home for leaders dedicated to radical, people-centred change.”

The recruitment campaign is accompanied by the party’s now familiar slogan: “Unite. Liberate. Take the Lead.”

Each of the posters specifically targets a different elective position, including governors, senators, MPs, woman representatives and MCAs, urging aspiring leaders to contest on the PLP ticket in the 2027 General Election.

“The home for leaders dedicated to radical, people-centered change. If you have the vision to fix your county from the ground up, this is your path,” reads part of the message carried on the campaign posters.

Early preparations for 2027

The latest recruitment drive signals that Karua’s party has shifted into election mode nearly a year before official campaign activities are expected to begin.

Political parties have increasingly intensified grassroots mobilisation following the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with many seeking to identify candidates early and strengthen local party structures ahead of the next polls.

PLP’s latest appeal appears designed to attract fresh candidates while expanding the party’s presence beyond its traditional support bases.

Builds on recent recruitment efforts

The recruitment campaign comes just weeks after the party unveiled several new aspirants in Meru County, including candidates for governor, Member of Parliament and MCA positions.

At the time, Karua said the move formed part of PLP’s strategy to strengthen its grassroots structures and widen its national political footprint ahead of 2027. The party also unveiled candidates for recent by-elections, including the Ol Kalou parliamentary contest, as it sought to establish itself as a viable alternative to the country’s larger political formations.

From NARC-Kenya to PLP

The recruitment drive also reflects the party’s new identity following its rebranding from NARC-Kenya to the People’s Liberation Party (PLP).

The rebranding, announced in early 2025, was intended to appeal to younger voters while aligning the party with what Karua describes as a liberation movement focused on justice, accountability and constitutional governance.

The party adopted the slogan “Unite – Liberate” and has consistently portrayed itself as a reform movement seeking to dismantle entrenched political interests rather than preserve them.

Karua’s 2027 ambitions

The latest mobilisation comes as Karua continues positioning herself as one of the key opposition figures ahead of the next General Election.

The veteran politician has repeatedly declared her intention to challenge President William Ruto in 2027, promising what she describes as a government founded on integrity, the rule of law and equal opportunity.

She has also intensified countrywide tours, criticism of the Kenya Kwanza administration and collaboration with other opposition leaders on governance and electoral reform issues.
