Principal Secretary for Internal Security Raymond Omollo has welcomed the nomination of Ida Odinga as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), terming it a significant boost to the country’s environmental diplomacy.

In a statement posted on his X account on Friday, January 23, 2026, Omollo said the nomination reflects the country’s shared resolve to advance Kenya’s interests on the global stage, particularly in environmental diplomacy.

“Congratulations to Canon Dr Ida Betty Odinga on your nomination by H.E. President William Ruto as Kenya’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),” Omollo stated.

Service and leadership

The PS Omollo described the nomination as recognition of Odinga’s long record of public service and moral leadership.

“This nomination is a fitting recognition of your distinguished service, moral leadership and steadfast commitment to public good,” he said.

Omollo also linked the appointment to the legacy of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, saying it acknowledged his enduring influence on national values and public discourse.

“It also honours the enduring legacy and memory of the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga, whose lifelong dedication to justice, environmental stewardship and inclusive governance continues to inspire the nation,” the PS stated.
