Police in Kisumu are investigating two incidents in which two police officers were attacked by unknown criminals in the lakeside city over the last two weeks.

In the first incident, a General Service Unit (GSU) officer was stabbed to death by a knife in Manyatta estate on Sunday night while in the second incident, a police constable was hit by a blunt object by unknown people two weeks ago and is now fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at a local hospital.

Kisumu County Police Commander Kilonzo Mutoro said they have launched investigations into the incidents as the victims’ families called for justice.

“It was an unfortunate incident. We lost a colleague who was on leave in unclear circumstances, but we are acting on leads to make arrests,” Mutoro said yesterday of the GSU officer who was stabbed to death.

He said the slain GSU officer hails from Kolwa Central in Kisumu East Sub County and was until his death attached to Turkwel GSU camp in Turkana county.

Yesterday, relatives led by former MCA Kolwa Central, George Olwal, pitched tent at the Kisumu Central Police Station demanding the arrest of the suspects.

Police however assured that they were hot on the heels of the suspects and urged members of the public with information that can help make arrests to come forth.

In the second incident, police are also pursuing leads to nab suspects believed to have been behind the attack on the Police constable identified as Francis Okeyo Okwatch who is based in Kisii county.
