Police nab person of interest in Likoni operation against drug business
In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the National Police Service (NPS) has arrested a suspect and confiscated 284 rolls of cannabis sativa in Likoni, Mombasa County.
The operation, conducted on August 30, 2025, was spearheaded by officers from the Likoni Sub-County headquarters following a public tip-off about a notorious peddler operating in the Tonge Nyama area.
“On 30th August 2025, officers from the Likoni Sub-County headquarters, acting on a tip-off from members of the public regarding a notorious drug peddler, conducted an operation in the Tonge Nyama area,” read part of the NPS post on X dated August 31, 2025.
According to police reports, the raid uncovered the stash hidden inside a sack in the suspect’s house. Authorities say the successful operation highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks that threaten community safety.
“During the raid, the officers arrested one suspect and recovered two hundred and eighty-four (284) large rolls of cannabis sativa, which had been stashed in a sack inside his house,” read the post.

Person of interest in custody
The NPS confirmed that the individual is in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, September 1, 2025. The large quantity of cannabis seized underscores the scale of the illicit trade within the coastal region, prompting authorities to tighten their surveillance.
In the statement, the police noted: “The suspect is currently in police custody and will be arraigned in court on Monday, 1st September 2025.”
The successful arrest marks yet another step in the NPS’s war against narcotics, with police urging residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement in providing timely intelligence.
Community partnership
The NPS commended members of the public for their role in the operation, saying their cooperation was key in ensuring its success.
“National Police Service commends members of the public for providing the information that led to the operation’s success,” the statement read.
Police further reiterated their commitment to safeguarding communities against the harmful effects of drug trafficking and substance abuse.
“The Service remains committed to the fight against drug trafficking and abuse, and this operation is part of ongoing efforts to protect communities from the dangers of narcotics,” the statement added.
Authorities continue to encourage citizens to report suspicious activities, emphasising that public cooperation is essential in creating a safer society free from the scourge of drugs.
