Detectives in Malindi arrest individual linked to Mombasa carjacking
The detectives from the Malindi police station have arrested a person of interest in relation to involvement in a robbery with violence at Mombasa involving a motorcar.
Writing on X on Monday, June 29, 2026, the DCI has confirmed that the person of interest had been under surveillance for his alleged involvement in the incident on June 11, 2026.
“Detectives from the Malindi Police Station have arrested a man suspected of involvement in a series of robbery with violence incidents in Malindi and Mombasa,” the DCI statement read in part.

The detectives have said that the person of interest rented a Toyota Fielder in Malindi before the robberies in Mombasa, which is said to have been used as a getaway car.
Switching of vehicle registration numbers
According to the DCI statement, the person of interest is believed to have changed the registration plates of the vehicle in order to avoid identification after the crash.
The DCI further noted that after further intelligence gathering, detectives traced him to a hideout in the Kwachocha area of Malindi, where he was arrested.
The officers also reported having recovered a knife and a black handbag that contained cannabis sativa during the operation, which was seized as exhibits, as investigations continue.

The person is currently in police custody and is in the process of being arraigned in court.
