Police nab man linked with drug trafficking
By Kiprono Keileb, December 9, 2025Police in Wajir County have arrested a man after officers allegedly found him with three kilograms of a substance suspected to be cannabis.
The arrest followed a tip-off from the public, marking another operation in the region’s ongoing fight against narcotics.
According to the National Police Service (NPS) post on X posted on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, officers from Griftu Police Station acted on intelligence received on Monday afternoon. They traced the suspect to Griftu Town, where they moved in to question him before carrying out a search at the scene.
“Yesterday, at approximately 1530 hrs, police officers from Griftu Police Station received intelligence regarding a suspicious individual in Griftu Town. Acting promptly, officers attended the location and apprehended a 32-year-old male suspect,” the statement reads.
After the arrest, officers searched the suspect and recovered what they believe is cannabis. The substance weighed about three kilograms.
“A search conducted at the scene revealed a quantity of a green plant substance, suspected to be Cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 3 kilograms. The suspect was escorted to Griftu Police Station, where he is currently in custody pending arraignment in court,” the statement reads.

Police say the recovery is part of broader efforts to stop drug trafficking both in Wajir County and across the country. They maintain that drug networks continue to target vulnerable communities and that surveillance and intelligence operations are ongoing.
“This arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing effort to curb drug trafficking across the country and demonstrates the National Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding communities from the dangers of narcotics and to taking action against those involved in the illegal drug trade,” the statement reads.
The man linked to the illicit substance is expected to appear in court once investigations and processing are complete. Police have encouraged the public to continue sharing information that may help disrupt criminal activity.
