Police in Nairobi seize Kangara and Chang’aa as crackdown intensifies
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, June 11, 2026Police in Starehe Sub-County, in Nairobi County, have seized 800 litres of kangara and 33 litres of Chang’aa in a coordinated security crackdown in the area aimed at cracking down on illegal alcohol brewers and distributors in the area.
Confirming the seizure on their X handle on Thursday, June 11, 2026, the National Police Service has said that the operation, which took place with the help of National Government Administration officers in Ngomongo, is part of a broader effort by the service to ensure public health and improve safety in the community.
“In a joint operation conducted by officers from Korogocho Police Station and National Government Administration Officers in the Ngomongo area, the security team seized 800 litres of Kangara and 33 litres of Chang’aa,” NPS stated.

The NPS has said that the crackdown was an intelligence-based raid to combat local brewing and distribution that was linked to an individual believed to be involved in the illicit alcohol trade in the area.
The National Police Service praised the efforts of cooperation between the security agencies, the local administration and the public, stating that community support remains a major factor in keeping the enforcement efforts going.

“The National Police Service commends the cooperation of local administrators and members of the public in the fight against illicit alcohol,” the NPS statement added.
The public has been told to “watch out” and report any doubt on the occurrence of suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official emergency telephone communication channels provided.

“Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency numbers,” the statement further indicated.
The service reiterated its efforts to continue its operations to break the supply and distribution of illegal alcohol and enhance safety in the residential areas of Nairobi.
“The Service remains committed to protecting communities by decisively combating the production, distribution and consumption of illicit alcohol,” the statement concluded.
