Police in Busia intercept contraband liquor
Officers from the National Police Service (NPS) in Busia on Sunday, May 3, 2026, successfully intercepted contraband alcoholic beverages and suspected narcotic substances during a routine security operation along the Busia–Kisumu Highway.
According to a statement shared by the National Police Service on their social media pages on Sunday, May 3, 2026, they stated that in a well-coordinated multi-agency operation, officers stationed at the Suo roadblock stopped a Nairobi-bound public service minibus for inspection.
“National Police Service officers in Busia, on 3rd May 2026, successfully intercepted contraband alcoholic drinks and suspected narcotic drugs during a routine security operation along the Busia–Kisumu Road. In a well-coordinated multi-agency operation, officers manning the Suo roadblock stopped a Nairobi-bound public service minibus for inspection.”
Upon conducting a thorough search, the officers recovered 24 packages of uncustomed Simba gin, each containing 24 bottles of 200ml, as well as five bales of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa.

Driver apprehended
The driver was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody pending processing and arraignment in court. The motor vehicle was also detained to assist with ongoing investigations. Authorities are pursuing another person of interest who managed to flee during the operation.

100kg of narcotics
After intercepting a motorcycle which was ferrying the illegal product.
“During a patrol conducted near the Kenya–Uganda border within Busia Sub-County, officers intercepted a motorcycle transporting three sacks of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 100 kilograms. The narcotics were recovered and secured as exhibits,” NPS stated.
