Police seize 100kg of narcotics at Busia border, one person of interest nabbed

Police officers in Busia County have intercepted a significant shipment of narcotics and apprehended one person of interest during a patrol near the Kenya–Uganda border.

In a statement on X account by the National Police Service on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the operation, which took place within Busia Sub-County, is part of ongoing efforts to protect communities and curb transnational crime.

“Police officers in Busia County have intensified operations targeting the trafficking and cross-border movement of narcotic drugs, as part of ongoing efforts to protect communities and curb transnational crime,” NPS wrote.

100 Kg Narcotics

The officers noted that during a patrol near the Kenya–Uganda border in Busia Sub-County, officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three sacks of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 100 kilograms.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the narcotics have been secured and will be used as exhibits in the upcoming legal proceedings.

“During a patrol conducted near the Kenya–Uganda border within Busia Sub-County, officers intercepted a motorcycle transporting three sacks of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 100 kilograms. The narcotics were recovered and secured as exhibits,” NPS stated.

One individual was apprehended at the scene and remains in police custody pending arraignment.

NPS Commitment

The NPS emphasised its steadfast commitment to ensuring public safety and combating the illegal drug trade. They are calling on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to help curb crime.
