Police assure Kenyans of security during November 27 by-elections
The National Police Service (NPS) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order as the country prepares for the upcoming by-elections scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2025, in different parts of the country earmarked for the democratic exercise.
By-elections preparedness
In an official press release signed by the NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the Service emphasised its constitutional mandate to protect life and property, prevent and detect crime, and uphold public safety while strictly observing the rule of law and respecting human rights.
The NPS stated that it will carry out its duties during the election period with professionalism, impartiality, and strict adherence to the Constitution to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process. It further confirmed that it is working in close coordination with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure that adequate security measures are in place across all affected areas.

”In the upcoming by-elections on November 27th, 2025, the NPS reiterates its unwavering commitment to executing its duties impartially, professionally and in strict adherence to the Constitution, in order to facilitate a peaceful, free, fair and credible electoral process,” NPS statement said in part.
”Furthermore, the NPS is working closely with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as per the law. The public is assured that adequate security shall be deployed for the attainment of the set objective,” it added.
Need for collective responsibility
While acknowledging the importance of political engagement in a democratic society, the police have urged all political actors to conduct their campaigns and activities within the confines of the law.
Political leaders, in particular, have been cautioned against making statements that could incite violence, spread hatred, or undermine public confidence in state institutions. The service called on leaders to exercise restraint and promote responsible communication that supports national unity and stability.
The NPS has also stressed that the law will be enforced fairly and consistently, without discrimination or bias. Any individual found engaging in unlawful activities, regardless of their political position or social status, will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Officers have been directed to act with the highest levels of professionalism while respecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens. In collaboration with other criminal justice agencies, the police will ensure that offenders are arrested and prosecuted.
Members of the public have been encouraged to remain calm and law-abiding as they go about their daily routines, with the assurance that their safety is a top priority. The Service has called for cooperation between citizens, political leaders, law enforcement, and IEBC officials to guarantee a secure and transparent electoral exercise.
The NPS also urged Kenyans to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
