PHOTOS: Gachagua chairs DCP’s inaugural NEC meeting

Former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, chaired the party’s inaugural National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held at the party’s headquarters.
The meeting was co-chaired by the party’s interim deputy party leader, Cleophas Malala, and comes just days after the registrar of political parties officially gazetted the DCP.

According to Malala, the main agenda of the NEC meeting was to deliberate on the official launch of the party.
The launch had initially been scheduled to take place at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on June 3, but the booking was abruptly cancelled by the venue’s management, who cited ongoing preparations for CHAN 2025.
As a result, the party resolved to reschedule the event for later this month.
An event planning committee was formed during the meeting and tasked with scouting for an alternative venue capable of accommodating between 40,000 and 50,000 delegates.
The new date and venue for the launch will be communicated to members in due course.
Agendas during the NEC meeting
In a statement released after the meeting, Malala disclosed that the party resolved to establish an Aspirants’ Forum, which will bring together all aspirants from across the country. He noted that this forum will eventually culminate in a robust nationwide membership drive.

“We are going to establish an Aspirants’ Forum, which will eventually culminate in a membership drive,” Malala stated.
The NEC also resolved to regulate the establishment of party offices across the country.
Malala said that following the party’s unveiling, some members and aspirants had already begun setting up offices in various regions.
However, the council decided that the responsibility of establishing official party offices would now rest solely with the party leadership.
The offices will be coordinated and regulated by the national secretaries and the secretary-general.
“After unveiling the party, we witnessed many individuals and aspirants setting up offices all over the country. As the National Executive Council, we have resolved that moving forward, no one will be allowed to set up party offices on their own. The establishment of offices will be strictly regulated by the National Secretariat and the Secretary-General,” Malala stated.
Malala described the NEC meeting as the beginning of a new journey, saying it was held to crystallise the party’s structures and lay the foundation for a political movement rooted in ideology and committed to listening to the people.
“This was just an inaugural meeting, a commencement of a big party built on strong ideologies and the voice of the people,” he said.
