Owalo says he hasn’t spoken to Ruto since resigning
By Cy Muganda, February 2, 2026Former Deputy Chief of Staff for Delivery and Government Efficiency Eliud Owalo has revealed that he has not had any direct communication with President William Ruto since resigning from government, even as he positions himself for the 2027 presidential race.
Speaking on a local media station on Sunday, February 2, 2026, Owalo said while some of the President’s aides had reached out to him, he had not been contacted personally by Ruto.
“I have not talked to him. People around him have called me, but I have not talked to the President,” Owalo said.
No need for contact
Asked why he hadn’t engaged with Ruto, Owalo explained that he was no longer part of the government and the President has a team of advisers to manage affairs.
“I mean, I’m not part of his government. He has enough people around him,” he said.

Owalo also confirmed that there had been no discussions between him and the President about his resignation or his next political steps.
“We have not talked. We have not discussed this issue,” he said.
Looking ahead, Owalo signalled his commitment to his political ambitions, promising that he would pursue his a2027 genda fully.
“I’m in this for the long haul, and I’m going the full hog. Watch this space,” Owalo stated.

In a statement posted on his Facebook account on Sunday, January 11, 2026, Owalo said his position in government was no longer tenable following his decision to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming polls.
“Following my declaration earlier today that I intend to run for Presidency of the Republic of Kenya in the year 2027, my position as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Delivery and Government Efficiency is no longer tenable,” Owalo stated.
He said he had stepped aside from the role with immediate effect.
“I have therefore resigned from the position with immediate effect,” he added.
