Osotsi urges govt to unravel cause of Jirongo’s death before burial

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has demanded full closure on the controversial death of former Lugari Member of Parliament (MP) Cyrus Jirongo ahead of his burial.

Speaking during a funeral service at the late Jirongo’s home in Lumakanda on Sunday, December 21, 2025, Osotsi urged that all answers and inconsistencies surrounding the veteran leader’s death be fully addressed before he is laid to rest.

“We want the state to carry out a conclusive investigation and provide all answers surrounding the death of Jirongo before he is buried,” he said.

He questioned why only the driver of the Climax Coach had come forward to explain the circumstances of the crash, despite there being 65 passengers on board.

Osotsi wondered how it was possible that none of the other 65 passengers, many of whom were Luhyas familiar with Jirongo, could testify about what they witnessed.

While Osotsi acknowledged the postmortem findings carried out by government pathologist Johansen Odour at Lee Funeral Home, which established that Jirongo died from blunt force trauma, he insisted that this does not close the chapter on the investigation.

“We have accepted the postmortem results, but that does not mean Jirongo’s death is settled. All inconsistencies must be addressed,” Osotsi said.

He further called on criminal investigative agencies to expedite the inquest and provide clear answers before the burial, scheduled for December 30, 2025.

Climax passengers silence

The silence of passengers who were on board during the head-on collision with the Climax Coach at Kerala, a few metres from Naivasha, has raised serious questions.

Similarly, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya expressed concern over why none of the 67 passengers could provide testimony, noting that Luhyas are traditionally known to speak out in such situations.

The matter has also been raised by Cleophas Malala, deputy party leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), who echoed concerns about the lack of accounts from those present.

This comes days after officers from the DCI obtained CCTV footage from the petrol station Jirongo had left before joining the highway. Investigators are trailing his last movements and interviewing persons of interest who were with the late leader in his final moments.
