Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has come out to state that the Kenya Kwanza regime is losing Ksh10 billion daily through corruption.

While speaking during an interview on a popular YouTube podcast aired on Friday, September 13, 2025, he said that, unlike former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who admitted during his tenure that Ksh2 billion was being lost daily, it is worse under the current regime, with over Ksh10 billion being lost each day.

Onyonka expressed his disappointment at the massive amounts of public funds disappearing from the exchequer, saying the figures are “crazy”.

“With Ruto, we are losing most probably Ksh10 billion a day because the stealing is overwhelming the amounts of figures that you listen to and look at; they are crazy,” Onyonka stated.

He further noted that despite the country having a budget of Ksh4 trillion in the last financial year, there have been no meaningful projects implemented. According to him, even civil servants’ salaries have not been increased, yet no tangible development can be pointed to.

“Show me a single project that the government has done with a budget of Ksh 4 trillion. Have we increased salaries for police? No. Have we hired some teachers? “Yes, but we don’t have the list.” Onyonka added

The senator cited the Talanta Stadium project as an example, saying that although the initial plan earmarked Ksh 9 billion for its construction, the figure later ballooned to Ksh56 billion.

Onyonka added that numerous cartels within President Ruto’s administration are syphoning public money and investing it in other countries.

On the issue of Talanta Stadium, even Kiharu MP Ndidi Nyoro also raised concerns about its construction.

“Everything else you see in Kenya in terms of development, like even the Talanta Stadium, is also not part of the 12 trillion debt.

“That is another debt, the securitisation of the Sports Fund, where we borrowed Ksh46 billion and will be paying Ksh100 billion in interest alone after 15 years.

“Even the expansion of the Nairobi–Nakuru Road is also not part of the Ksh12 trillion we have borrowed. That is NSSF money being used as a PPP to build that road.”
