One person dies in Kitale road crash
By People Reporter, June 27, 2021One person has died after being involved in a road accident at Makutano town on Kitale-Lodwar highway.
The accident, which involved a bodaboda rider and a vehicle, occurred when the rider allegedly tried to overtake a matatu.
The rider died on the spot while his pillion passenger sustained minor injuries.
As a result, the accident caused heavy snarl-up along the busy highway as bodaboda riders blocked the road.
George Chedatum, the motor vehicle driver, said he tried to veer off the road to prevent the accident from occurring but the bodaboda rider was also on high speed.
Locals, who spoke to the media at the scene of the accident, said the county should enforce laws to help curb the increasing number of accidents.
West Pokot County bodaboda Sacco chairman John Lokorio said they will hold a meeting with matatu drivers to address the increasing road carnage in the area.
“We are losing lives because of careless driving. Let us respect each other while on the road,” he said.
