Here is what you need to know in order to get up to speed with today’s happenings.

Ruto leads nation in Mashujaa Day celebrations

President William Ruto will lead the nation to celebrate the 14th edition of the Mashujaa Day fete in Kericho County.

The celebration to be held in South Rift will also see heroes and heroines from the country recognised and honoured.

The necessary arrangements were put in place in earnest, and during the celebration, Universal Health Coverage will be unveiled by the head of state.

Africa Football League kicks off

The inaugural Africa Football League (AFL) will kick off on Friday, October 20, 2023, in Dar es Salaam, with Simba SC hosting African giants Al Ahly from Egypt.

AFL is the new football competition in Africa and will see the continent’s famous and iconic clubs battle for a $4 million prize for the champions.

The Simba vs Al Ahly game is the first of the quarterfinals, all of which are played over two legs.

Siaya, West Pokot counties to face power outage

Kenya Power announced on Thursday, October 19, 2023, that two counties will face an outage due to routine maintenance that will last between five and six hours.

In West Pokot, a power blackout will be experienced between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Ortum, Sina, and Sigor and adjacent areas.

Blackouts in parts of Siaya County will run for five hours, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
