Nyamira governor seeks postponement of Senate hearing over health concerns
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has pleaded with the County Public Accounts Committee in the Senate to allow him to seek medical attention ahead of a hearing on the Audit report tabled before the Senate committee by the Auditor General.
Appearing before the Senate committee at the parliament building on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, Nyaribo indicated that he had developed health concerns upon arrival at the Senate and had therefore affected his ability to adequately present in the Senate session.
“Because of health reasons, I request we get a new date… this is a sudden occurrence, chair,” Nyaribo said.

A ruling from the Senate chair for the County Public Accounts Atieno Kajwang’ committee allowed the governor to have the schedule adjusted to accommodate the governor’s appeal to seek medical attention, and requested the senator to make sure to attend to the session at a later date that will be communicated by the committee.
“Accountability is individual and is nothing corrated and we disburse finances to individual governors, not the council of governors. We will not allow a county to withdraw money if it has not accounted because that is the basic principle of accounting. Governor, we request that you get quick attention for you to get medical attention as soon as possible, and we shall give you a new date and make sure you attend when you set a new date,” Kajwang’ said.
The scheduled hearing forms part of a broader accountability process in which county chiefs have been summoned to clarify issues flagged in audit findings.
The governor was expected to respond to audit queries touching on the county’s financial management. The plea is said to have been made in the context of ongoing oversight proceedings, as the Senate exercises its constitutional mandate to review matters raised in reports from the Auditor-General.
Senate and Council of Governors standoff

CoG chair and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi said governors have been humiliated during Senate hearings and resolved to suspend their appearances until structured talks are held with Senate leadership.
“The Council of Governors notes with great concern the continuous and escalating extortion, political witch-hunt, harassment, intimidation and humiliation of Excellency governors by certain Senators when they appear before the Public Accounts Committee of the Senate,” Abdullahi said.
