The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued a travel advisory to members of the public ahead of the Easter Festivities, cautioning against reckless driving.

In a statement released on Thursday, April 2, 2026, NTSA announced measures in place ahead of the festivities while in collaboration with the National Police Service.

The Authority has urged motorists and passengers to prioritise safety on the roads.

In addition, NTSA has announced that the Police Officers have intensified enforcement operations nationwide to reduce fatal crashes during this festive period

“Fellow motorists, as we commemorate this Easter season, I urge every driver and passenger to prioritize safety on our roads. The National Transport and Safety Authority, in close collaboration with the National Police Service, has intensified enforcement operations nationwide to reduce fatal crashes during this festive period,” NTSA announced.

Road safety measures

NTSA has explained that while speeding remains a leading cause of death nationwide, Motorists are hence cautioned against dangerous behaviours.

The Authority has further emphasised the effects of drunk driving, noting that such driving impairs judgment and reaction time.

“Let me address specific dangerous behaviours. Speeding remains a leading cause of death. Slow down and adhere to posted limits. Drunk driving impairs judgment and reaction time; if you have consumed alcohol, do not get behind the wheel,” NTSA stated.

At the same time, NTSA explained that driver fatigue is equally deadly, urging drivers to rest adequately before long journeys and take breaks every two hours.

NTSA has cautioned that failure to maintain lane discipline, including dangerous overtaking and weaving, puts all road users at risk.

On the other hand, for those whose vehicles break down, NTSA has urged them to ensure they park safely off the road and place warning triangles at a sufficient distance.

Likewise, NTSA has warned that unroadworthy vehicles-those with defective brakes, worn-out tyres, or faulty lighting-will be impounded immediately.

“We shall deploy traffic enforcement officers, speed cameras, and sobriety checkpoints at strategic points. Remember: every life matters. Let us arrive alive and celebrate with our loved ones. Drive responsibly,” NTSA warned.

Police report

At the same time, the National Police Service (NPS) has assured Kenyans that the government has put in place safety measures to ensure smooth transportation and the safety of members of the public ahead of the Easter holiday, even as students head back home for the term one break

In a statement by the National Police Service on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, the administration listed collaborative work with relevant government agencies to ensure enhanced safety.

“The National Police Service (NPS) wishes to assure all Kenyans, residents and visitors, of their safety and security as the country prepares for the Easter holidays, which coincide with the closure of schools and the ongoing rainy season,” NPS said.

Recognising that the Easter period will be characterised by increased travel across the nation, social gatherings and tourism, all of which present unique security and safety challenges, the National Police Service has put in place a comprehensive strategy to maintain law and order.
