President William Ruto has called on Kenyans to embrace unity, love, and renewed faith during Easter festivities.

In his message on Friday, April 3, 2026, Ruto reflected on the significance of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, encouraging believers that even in the darkest moments, new life, hope, and renewal are always possible.

And while Easter calls us to move forward with faith, to believe in what is possible, and to lead with hope, President Ruto has encouraged Kenyans to embrace hope for humanity.

At the same time, the Head of State encouraged believers that even in difficult times, faith can inspire renewal and transformation.

In addition, he has urged families across the country to celebrate the season in peace and joy.joy

“As we remember, kusulubiwa na kufufuka kwa Yesu Kristo, may this season remind us that baada ya kila jaribio, kuna ufufuo na kuna mwanzo mpya. To every family, may the spirit of Easter bring joy and peace. To every weary heart, may it bring hope and renewed faith. And to our beloved nation, Kenya, may it bring strength of unity and love,” he said.

What does Easter mean?

Easter is one of the most important celebrations in Christianity. It marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which occurred three days after his crucifixion by Roman authorities.

The events remembered during Easter begin with the arrest and crucifixion of Jesus, commemorated on Good Friday.

Good Friday

Good Friday is the Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates the execution of Jesus by crucifixion. Good Friday is a day of mourning in church.

During special Good Friday services Christians remember Jesus’s suffering and death on the cross, and what this means for their faith.

In some countries, there are special Good Friday processions, or re-enactments of the Good Friday story.

Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday marks Jesus’s resurrection. After Jesus was crucified on the Friday, his body was taken down from the cross and buried in a cave tomb.

The tomb was guarded by Roman soldiers and an enormous stone was put over the entrance. On Sunday Mary Magdalene and some of Jesus’s disciples visited the tomb.

They found the stone had been moved and that Jesus’s body had gone. Jesus was seen later that day by Mary and the disciples, and for forty days afterwards by many people.

His followers realised that God had raised Jesus from the dead. Christians call this the resurrection.
