NTSA gives state agencies 5 days to switch to reflective number plates
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged government institutions across the country to submit their applications for reflective number plates, as the official deadline fast approaches.
According to a Monday, August 25, 2025, notice by the NTSA, only five days remain before the set deadline of August 29, 2025, for all National and County Government entities to comply with the directive.
The exercise is being carried out under instructions from the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service, who emphasised the need for timely compliance.
”The Deadline for the application of reflective plates is almost here. Ensure all your official vehicles are compliant. Make it a priority. For enquiries, send an email to [email protected],” NTSA said in a statement.
According to NTSA, the deadline issued by the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service on applications for reflective plates is closing in. The national transport authority has urged targeted groups to comply with the directives and avoid further delay.
Initially, NTSA stressed that reflective plates are a mandatory requirement for official government vehicles, designed to enhance visibility, improve road safety, and curb misuse of government-owned transport assets. Institutions that are yet to apply have been urged to prioritise the process within this final week to avoid inconveniences and last-minute rush.
Free school vehicles inspection
Meanwhile, as schools nationwide open for the third term of the 2025 educational calendar, NTSA is continuing with the exercise of free school vehicle inspection as part of its ongoing “Operation Watoto Wafike Salama” campaign, which seeks to enhance the safety of learners by ensuring that school transport vehicles, including buses and vans, are roadworthy and fully compliant with safety regulations.
The particular inspections focus on critical vehicle components such as brakes, tires, lights, and seat belts, which play a central role in guaranteeing safe travel for school children.
”The initiative is part of the “Operation Watoto Wafike Salama” campaign that aims to enhance the safety of children by ensuring school transport vehicles, such as buses and vans, are roadworthy and compliant with safety standards. The campaign promotes safe transportation for students by verifying the condition of critical vehicle components like brakes, tyres, lights, and seat belts, among others,” NTSA noted in its statement on Friday, August 22, 2025.
