Njeri Maina wants officers captured on Mbagathi Hospital CCTV questioned

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has called for the questioning of the security officers captured on the CCTV footage showing what transpired when Albert Ojwang was taken to the facility.
In a statement on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Njeri Maina called for the grilling of the officers while questioning if they had crucial information that could help solve the murder case.
“Officers who act ultra vires to the laws of the land must be held personally culpable,” her statement shared on Facebook read in part.
“What do these police officers know about the gruesome circumstances under which Albert Ojwang was killed?” she posed.

Officers
From the CCTV footage obtained by a local media station, three officers were recorded arriving at Mbagathi Hospital in a police vehicle at 1:35 am.
The two engaged in a brief conversation before walking towards the casualty section of the health facility.
During this time, Ojwang was still at the back of the vehicle, unattended. The officers then reappeared at 1:37 am while making phone calls.
From the footage, the officers took close to 20 minutes before wheeling Ojwang into the hospital while covered in white sheets.
The officers, whose identity has not been established, then spent another 10 minutes in the casualty section after taking Ojwang to the hospital.
At 2:11 am, they wheeled out with the body.

More demands
With the CCTV footage adding a new twist, several leaders have also added their voice into the matter while demanding justice for Albert Ojwang.
The Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Kalerwa Salasya, challenged police officers at the Central Police Station, where Ojwang was booked in before later being confirmed dead, to come out and reveal what happened.
“The walls are closing in. Nairobi Central Police officers must now come clean — or carry the cross of silence and guilt. The bold and defiant spirit of Albert will never rest until justice is served. Anyone who took part in this atrocity must know: there will be no escape,” Salasya’s statement read in part.
“Only the truth can save you now—nothing less,” he added.

Busia Senator on his side called for the DCI Ibrahim Amin’s ouster, arguing that his submission before the Senate and National Assembly contradicts the timings displayed on the CCTV footage.
“ALBERT OJWANG WAS MURDERED. AND THEY LIED. At 1:35 am, CCTV footage from Mbagathi Hospital, aired by @citizentvkenya, confirmed Albert Ojwang was already dead. Yet DCI Boss Mohamed Amin claimed he was in a police cell at that exact time. This isn’t incompetence. It’s premeditated murder,” Omtatah stated.
