Nelson Havi blasts Cherargei over remarks on Kenyan activists
By Mabonga Makhanu, November 11, 2025Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president Nelson Havi has come out to criticise Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei over comments he made about Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo, who were recently released after being abducted in Uganda.

In a statement shared on his social media on Wednesday, November 11, 2025, Havi expressed disappointment that Cherargei, despite having a legal background like himself, could make such remarks.
He stated that although Cherargei went to school, his education seemingly did not guide his reasoning.

Havi further linked the senator’s behaviour to sycophancy, suggesting that Cherargei is primarily interested in pleasing those in authority, referring to him as “the king’s exhaust”.
Cherargei’s remarks
These come after remarks by Cherargei warning Kenyan activists to desist from what he termed as exporting bad manners to neighbouring countries.
“The Kenyan activists who export ‘bad manners’ of interfering with the local politics to our neighbouring countries must stop immediately. In the spirit of the East Africa Community (EAC), our citizens are happily interacting through education, business, marriage, and work, but there is no agreement on political federation,” his statement.

He also called upon presidents within East African countries to arrest any who interfere with their internal issues.
“I want to urge Presidents Suluhu and Museveni, if you get any busybody activists who want to interfere with the peace of your country. Deal with them accordingly and return them home,” he posited.
Experts in riots
His remarks come after President Yoweri Museveni admitted to the arrest and detention of two Kenyan activists, Nelson Oyoo and Bob Njagi, who have been missing for a period of 38 days.

Speaking on Sunday, November 9, 2025, Museveni said his government arrested the activist working in cahoots with the opposition National Unity Platform leader, Bobi Wine.
According to him, the two Kenyans were experts in riots and were planning to promote riots in the country ahead of the upcoming elections in the East African country.
“Here, we have got very good intelligence. Like, for instance, the two Kenyans whom we arrested – they were working with Kyagulanyi’s group. We monitored them and found out they were experts in riots,” he said.
