Nandi Governor Stephen Sang claims June 25 protests are planned to cause chaos
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has raised alarm over the planned June 25, 2026, protests, claiming that some political leaders are using them to potentially lay the ground for chaos ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a church function in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday, June 21, 2026, Sang warned that Kenya risks sliding into instability if political rhetoric and mobilisation around the demonstrations is not checked.

“The post-election violence of 2007 did not fall from nowhere. It started with drums of war that were being beaten by certain leaders,” Sang said.
What is the purpose of protest?
He further alleged that current political discourse is increasingly taking a dangerous direction.
Sang questioned the purpose of the planned demonstrations, arguing that they lack a clear agenda.
“Maandamano ambayo amesema Finance Bill haina shida, kwa sababu tuliwaonyesha haikuwa na shida. Lakini wamesema, hata kama hakuna shida kwa Finance Bill, tunakutana kwa maandamano. What is this maandamano that is going to be undertaken on the 25th? What is the agenda?” he posed.
He alleged that the protests could be deliberately engineered to turn violent.
“The truth of the matter is that wanataka kuleta watu kwa maandamano; they will get goons to come and fight, and before you realise, it is a curtain-raiser for chaos in 2027,” Sang claimed.
Need to safeguard country’s security
The governor urged top security and government officials to remain firm in safeguarding the country’s stability.

“Your Excellency, Professor Kithure Kindiki, and the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, you must travel every mile to ensure that the security, stability of our country is secured,” he said.
He further warned against any actors he accused of undermining peace ahead of the next general election.
“Na yule mmoja ambaye anajaribu kukoroga na kuharibu hiyo amani running into the next election, you must not spare any resources, and any law, and any mechanism to ensure that it is brought down,” he added.
