Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has slammed critics pitting him against his boss President William Ruto.

Speaking during a meeting with Meru leaders at his Karen residence on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Kindiki reiterated his commitment to working with the president to help him achieve his goals noting that his job is to assist the head of state not fight him.

He additionally underscored that whoever wants to fight the president should join opposition and actualise their plan of criticising the president’s policies and orders.

In the same breath, Kindiki highlighted that despite the constant criticism, his scorecard says otherwise and Kenyans will bear witness of his exemplary governance when his term ends.

Niliona wengine wananifundisha kazi..ooh unajua unafaa kukaa hivi, deputy president anakaanga hivi; my friend si ushugulike na kazi yako, when that time comes si mimi ni deputy president, mtihani yangu si ya rais, ni ya deputy president, I will pass with flying colours kwa hio level, cause kazi ya naibu wa. rais ni kusaidia rais sio kupigana naye, that is not the job description. Hio ya kupigana na rais ni kazi ya opposition. Kama wewe ni deputy president kazi yako ni kusaidia rais kwa udi na uvumba, mchana na usiku, kama hutaki kumsaidia utoke, ujoin opposition,” he said.

Kindiki also addressed the heckling incident the president encountered in Isiolo noting that the Kenya Kwanza administration prefers temporary criticism while fulfilling its promises.

“There are people engaging in excessive politics of excitement, seeking cheers and applause out there. President Ruto has taught us not to go down that road. We would rather be heckled now and get it right at the election or at the ballot,” Kindiki said.

He also responded to threats of a one-term presidency noting; “The issue is not how long I will stay in this office. That’s the least of my worries. That is the least of my issues; the same for President Ruto. I see some people threatening that he will only serve one term… Does it really matter? It doesn’t matter how long you stay in office. What matters is what you do while in office.”
