Muturi urges moral leadership and accountability

By , March 15, 2026

Former Attorney General and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi has urged leaders to prioritise faith, integrity, justice, and humility in governance.

Speaking during an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Ithaga in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, Muturi said true service to the nation must be rooted in moral principles.

In a post on X, Muturi described the gathering as “uplifting”, with believers from multiple denominations coming together in prayer, fellowship, and reflection on national values.

The service drew opposition figures, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Democracy for Citizens Party principal Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Action Party-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, and several sitting senators and members of the National Assembly.

People-centred governance

Muturi highlighted that such moments remind leaders of their responsibility to anchor decisions in faith and an unwavering commitment to public welfare.

“Moments such as these remind us that leadership must be anchored on faith, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice and the well-being of the people we serve,” read the X post in part.

He stressed the need for national unity and collective responsibility in building a just and accountable Kenya. The church service is part of a wider pattern by the United Opposition, a coalition of leaders challenging the current administration ahead of future elections.

The group has frequently used faith-based platforms and community engagements to promote moral governance and critique perceived detachment in national leadership.

A month earlier, on February 15, 2026, Muturi joined Gachagua and others at a worship service at PCEA Zimmerman Church in Roysambu Constituency, Nairobi. Following the service, they engaged directly with residents and business owners, discussing concerns over high living costs, youth unemployment, and governance seen as disconnected from citizens’ realities.

“As leaders in the United Opposition, we remain firm in our resolve to champion people-centred policies that restore dignity, create opportunities, and protect livelihoods. Kenyans deserve a government that listens, consults, and acts in their best interest, not one that imposes decisions without considering their impact on hard-working families and small businesses,” Justin Muturi wrote.

Muturi described the sessions as “candid and deeply reflective”, pledging to push for accountability, economic relief, and leadership that restores dignity while creating opportunities.

Mururi assured residents that the United Opposition will prioritise engagement with communities to develop policies that directly respond to the everyday realities of families, workers, and entrepreneurs.

He also called for collective action between leaders and citizens to ensure that governance serves the people’s interests, not only political convenience.
