Murder incidents on the rise, police reports show

At least three children were killed by their parents in the last four days across the country with more than 10 other people murdered within the same period.

On Friday, a woman strangled her four-year-old-son to death before throwing the body in a pit latrine in Rongai, Nakuru county.

Ann Wangui, 26, first gave her first born son, Victor Kipkurui, 6, several tablets to swallow before she locked him in the house in Olrongai Kichwa and left with the younger son, Newton Kiruto, 4.

The following day, the body, stuffed in a sack, was recovered inside a pit latrine.

A neighbour, Bernard Karanja identified the sack as the one the deceased boy’s mother had borrowed from him the previous day.

The whereabouts of the mother Ann Wangui remains unknown.

The National Police Service headquarters also reported that a police officer’s spouse killed her own child before she attempted to commit suicide in Turkana.

In Chebilat, Nyamira county, a couple was on Thursday arrested after their one-and-a-half-year-old child who died in unclear circumstances was found to have head injuries believed to have been caused by a blunt object.

Samuel Okoko and his wife Rebecca Mwende took the child to Summit Hospital in Chebilat where he was confirmed dead. The hospital informed the village elder who informed police from Borabu.

“Further examination on the body of the child, Emiliano Ndamara revealed that there were injuries due to external blunt force,” police said.

Police records indicate there is an increase in murder cases in the last few weeks.

Detectives in Kigera, Gatundu South Sub-County have also launched investigations into the death of James Ndungu Kinyanjui aged 63 whose body was found lying outside his gate on Thursday.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been scalded with hot water.

In another case on Friday, a decomposed body of Kristina Anyango Abanga from Bondo was found in Litare Beach in Mbita Sub-County inside the house where she was staying with another woman.

The deceased’s two boyfriends, Erick Okoth Kirasu and Richard Odhiambo Onyango, who were last seen with her have, been arrested and investigations continue.

The same day in Narok County, Susan Moraa, 35, was murdered by a group of five men who abducted her in Entoltol, Narok Central Sub-County. The body had severe deep cuts on the head, right thigh and left believed to have been inflicted by a sharp object.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was a salonist.

In Kinango, Kwale county, the body of a man was found lying by the roadside. Police said the body had deep cuts on the head when it was discovered on Friday, January 24.

In another case in Maragua, Muranga county, a woman believed to have been acting in self defence stabbed her husband to death. She had left with her one-month old child to spend the night at a neighbour’s house after a domestic quarrel.

The following day she went back to pick a few items and another fight ensued and she stabbed her husband.

In Oloolua, Kajiado North Sub-County, a farmhand killed his colleague just four days after he was dismissed from work.

The body of John Dangiri 36 was found inside his house with a deep cut on the forehead.

The house was locked from inside and the suspect is yet to be arrested.

After the attack, the suspect stole solar panels, CCTV cameras and around 19 chickens.
