Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi says the party is not seeking political suitors for the 2022 General Election.

In an apparent reference to calls by allies of ODM leader Raila Odinga and DP William Ruto that he joins their camps, Mudavadi declared he will resist forced political marriage.

“Those of you who keep asking me to work with certain leaders should know that I can speak for myself.

ANC will not be forced into political marriage. Do you think we can’t find friends on our own?”he asked.

Central Organisation of Trade Unions secretary general Francis Atwoli, ANC rebels led by Senator Cleophas Malala, Godfrey Osotsi and Lugari MP Ayub Savula have publicly asked Mudavadi to work with Raila.

On the other hand, pro-Ruto Jubilee MPs Ben Washiali, Malulu Injendi, Emmanuel Wangwe and former Senator Boni Khakwale have asked Mudavadi to join their camp.

Mudavadi made the remarks during the  funeral of the party’s Kakamega branch secretary Francis Luchivya in Malava on Saturday.

Financial burden

He said the party was opposed to introduction of regional governments as that would exacerbate the financial burden on Kenyans. “ANC received invitation from the BBI steering committee.

For avoidance of doubt we oppose creation of regional governments. We shall make proposal to lessen the cost of living, graft fight and improving our electoral laws to ensue every vote count,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mudavadi has asked politicians not to play “political supremacy” at  funeral ceremonies.

“It is unfortunate to pretend to grieve with the bereaved when your intention is to show off by giving cash handouts,” he said.
