Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and retired Ghana President Nana Akuffo-Addo have led a delegation of dignitaries and Kenyan politicians to pay their respects to the late Raila Odinga.

Speaking at Raila’s burial place at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, Mudavadi commended Addo for finding time to mourn and pay tribute to the late leader.

“Thank you for coming. This was your friend, and you came all the way from Ghana to be with us and the family of Raila. It is an honour not just to us but to the people of Kenya,” he stated.

The PCS also expressed his condolences to the Odingas.

“We continue to miss and grieve the loss of a great statesman and somebody whose contribution to the continent and the international arena will always be remembered. We wish to affirm our solidarity with the family and pray that God’s grace can visit the entire family,” he stated.

Addo was among the first dignitaries to condole with Kenyans when Raila passed on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.

Addo condolences

“I extend my deepest condolences to the people of the great sisterly nation of Kenya, President William Samoei Ruto, and to the family of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, who died in India, earlier today,”he stated moments after news of Raila’s passing broke out.

The Ghanaian recounted the many personal moments he shared with Raila, expressing shock at the news of his demise.

“News of the passing of this great son of Africa, who, for a long time, was a very good friend of mine, has been received with widespread sadness. Aside from the many encounters and thought-experiences upon which we held deep convictions, Prime Minister Odinga and I shared mutual values on strengthening democracy and on advancing the human rights of Africa’s citizens. On 7th January, 2017, he was one of the distinguished dignitaries who attended my inauguration event at the Independence Square, in Accra,” his condolences statement then read.

Others in the contingent at Raila’s Opoda farm included former Attorney General Amos Wako, Environment Cabinet Secretary Deborah Mulongo, KANU chairman Gideon Moi, Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) supremo Francis Atwoil, and Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya.

In their speeches, Wako and Atwoli termed Raila’s demise a huge loss to Kenyans and the world.
