MPs threaten to impeach Bore for snubbing session

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore risks being impeached following her failure to appear before parliament to respond to questions by MPs.
Yesterday, MPs accused Bore (pictured) of showing contempt to them by being the first CS to snub the summons to appear and answer questions from members on behalf of their constituents.
“If this House wants to protect its integrity, credibility and safeguard its independence and authority it must take the boldest step and indict this CS.
I will be more than happy to second a motion for her impeachment. I will be asking my members on the minority side to proceed and commence the process of taking home the CS,” said Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi.
Bore was scheduled to appear before parliament alongside her Water and Irrigation counterpart Alice Wahome and Zachary Njeru (Lands) but failed to show up, the third time that she has done so.
The CS has also been giving committees a wide berth and has only appeared once since her appointment to the position.
Despite being invited three weeks ago, Bore failed to appear, only to send a letter to the Clerk indicating that she was out of Nairobi on official business.
“We are today supposed to have submissions from CS Bore. I have however received a letter by the Labour CS casually stating that the minister is on official engagement outside Nairobi and I don’t know what that means…,” stated Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wa took issue with Bore’s request for a rescheduling the engagement noting that Parliament did not operate at the whims of CSs.
“It must be clear to all our Cabinet Secretaries that they don’t appear before the National Assembly or Parliament as a favour to anybody.
They appear before these elected representatives of the people to be accountable to the people of Kenya,” stated Ichungw’a.
