MP Majimbo questions IEBC’s silence on rising political intolerance in Kabuchai
Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has questioned the silence of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over the chaos witnessed in Chwele, Kabuchai Ward.
While speaking during an interview with a local media station on Saturday, November 22, 2025, the MP expressed his disappointment at how the electoral body has taken no action against Ford Kenya’s candidate, Vincent Maunda, who is competing against his preferred candidate, Erick Wekesa, in the Chwele Kabuchai Ward by-election.

He went on to state that, as per the Elections Code of Conduct, anyone who engages in violence and chaos of such magnitude in Chwele-Kabuchai Ward is required to be barred from taking part in the elections.
He said they should be barred since they are contravening the code as stipulated in Article 88 of the Constitution. However, according to Majimbo, the electoral body has remained silent on the matter.
“The violence of such magnitude qualifies IEBC to remove Maunda from the race. What are they waiting for? This is the law. Since every candidate signs a form barring them from engaging in electoral violence, what is IEBC doing?”
He also warned the IEBC over plans to transfer the tallying centre from the ward to a different location, which he noted would be against the law that requires a tallying centre to remain within the jurisdiction where the elections are held.
The attack
This comes after repeated cycles of electoral violence and chaos within Chwele, Kabuchai Ward, the latest incident being when he, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati were attacked by goons whom Kalasinga claimed were sent by the Ford Kenya party.

The attack forced the rally, which was being held at his home in Namakhele, to come to a standstill, prompting everyone to scamper for safety amid gunshots and tear gas.
Natembeya’s near assassination
Majimbo further stated that there was also an attempt to assassinate the Trans Nzoia Governor, who, according to him, escaped death by a whisker thanks to the swift action of his bodyguard.
He said the bodyguard quickly pushed Natembeya into his car, and moments after he got inside, a bullet flew right above the sunroof where he had been standing.
The goons, according to Kalasinga, also injured his 70-year-old mother, who is now admitted to the hospital.
This incident comes just days after the IEBC warned that stern action would be taken against anyone engaging in electoral violence.
