Embattled Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga has come out to explain how Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya escaped death by a whisker after a heavy shootout at his home in Namakhele, Kabuchai.

While speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Saturday, November 22, 2025, after the incident, which saw his rally that was being held at his home in Kabuchai, where Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati, his former deputy Charles Ngome, and other politicians from the area were present.

They had gathered at Majimbo’s home, addressing a charged crowd while on car rooftops during a homestretch campaign for their independent candidate, Erick Wekesa.

They were attacked, and the meeting came to a standstill, with everyone scampering for safety amid a heavy shootout and tear gas being deployed.

Kalasinga has now revealed how George Natembeya was targeted, saying that were it not for his bodyguard, who acted swiftly to save him by pushing him inside his car, the Trans Nzoia county boss, who had stormed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s backyard in Kabuchai, could have actually breathed his last.

According to Majimbo, unlike other politicians who were on the rooftops with the rest of their bodies inside their vehicles, the situation was different for Natembeya. He was standing fully exposed on the car roof, and when all hell broke loose, other politicians simply buried their heads, but for Natembeya it was difficult.

His hawk-eyed bodyguard rushed, grabbed him, and pushed him inside the car. Immediately after he got inside, a bullet passed over the sunroof.

“Were it not for Natembeya’s bodyguard, we could have been talking of a different story immediately. Natembeya sunk his head in his car; a bullet passed over the sunroof,” Kalasinga stated.

He continued to explain that the same attackers also aimed at him and the former Bungoma governor, but in Wangamati’s case, the bullet came from behind toward the front and hit the steering wheel.

Property destruction

This is not the first time such scenarios have happened. Chwele–Kabuchai ward has been a hotspot of violence. Recently, Kalasinga’s restaurant in Chwele Market was vandalised by unknown people.

Many leaders, including Chama Cha Kazi party leader Moses Kuria, have condemned the violence meted out against Natembeya and Majimbo, saying that the international community is keeping a close watch on the happenings to avoid a repeat of the Tanzania situation.
