Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia has stated that the Wantam Movement’s divine duty is to ensure that they replace President William Ruto and prevent him from securing a second term.

While speaking during an interview on a local radio station on Tuesday, September 7, 2025, he dismissed the president’s claims that the united opposition has no clear agenda to present to the nation that would convince voters to elect them in 2027, saying that all they are saying is “Wantam”.

Kaguchia went on to state that the slogan “Wantam” itself is a clear agenda since, according to him, the current problem facing the nation is the present regime, and the slogan clearly shows that the opposition has a definite goal of what they want to achieve in 2027.

“The Wantam Movement is leading the opposition with a clear agenda to replace the current leadership under President William Ruto, a task I consider a divine duty and crucial for our nation at this moment,” Kaguchia stated.

Wamtam Slogan

This ‘wantam’ slogan cherished by the united opposition and Kenyans who are opposed to William Ruto’s rule has drawn reactions from several quarters, with Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni saying that it was not well thought out.

While appearing on a local radio station on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Kioni said the slogan initiated by the united opposition as a rallying call for those discontented with the current regime has not served its intended purpose.

Instead, he argued, it seems to have given the government of the day more comfort, contrary to what was initially expected.

According to Kioni, the Constitution provides that an elected leader can only serve for one term of five years at a time.

Therefore, telling an officeholder that at the end of his term he must go or using the Wantam slogan amounts to nothing since it is obvious to everyone that one must vacate office at the end of the term.

For this reason, Kioni believes the slogan, though celebrated by Kenyans, holds no real weight.

“If you tell me that at the end of my contract I must go, I will ask you, ‘What am I supposed to do since it’s obvious?’” Kioni stated.

Kioni, who has now confirmed that he is deeply aligned with the united opposition, further stated that the slogan, as popularised by the opposition and Kenyans, has only made the government more comfortable and arrogant.
