MP asks State to speed up JSS class buildings
The government has been told to speed up infrastructural development in learning institutions grappling with inadequate classrooms for Junior Secondary School in Kiambu County.
Ruiru MP Simon King’ara said most of the schools in the populous constituency are facing challenges of space for learners in the JSS wing and called for more funding.
“Ruiru has more than 100,000 learners in primary and secondary schools which are facing challenges of inadequate infrastructural development,” said the legislator while inspecting two newly constructed classrooms at Kahawa Wendani Primary School.
However, he said construction of more JSS classrooms was ongoing in at least 10 other schools including St Georges, Kwihota, Ruiru Boys, Mutuya, Manguo, Githothua and Kimbo Primary schools where over 40 classrooms are under construction.
“For JSS to operate effectively, the requisite requirements including classrooms, text books, trained teachers and so on need to be put in place,” said the lawmaker.
King’ara also called for speedy release of National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) and bursary disbursement which he said will go a long way in paying school fees for learners most of whom are still stuck at home.
The MP added that his office also seeks to incorporate local investors in dealing with the challenge of inadequate classrooms at the learning institutions to fast-track decongestion.
