Moranga wins fourth leg of Nyamira Great Run Series
Aburi Moranga overcame stiff competition to win the fourth round of the Nyamira Great Run Series in the 10km senior men’s event.
Two-time series’ winner Enock Onchari and third round victor Stephen Arita could not cope with the electrifying speed of Moranga in the race held at Kiendege Secondary School, Nyamira County, last Friday.
Onchari who won the opening two series at Ensoko Cross Country Champions in Borabu sub-county and Borabu North sub-county editions could only manage a fourth place.
Moranga charged out of the leading pack to fend off sprouting youngster Felix Oberi in the final curve of the race in an astonishing time of 29 minutes, 31.25 seconds.
Oberi, who is only 17-years-old, was arguably the star of the series considering that he was the youngest runner in the men’s senior race after clocking 29:32.69 minutes to finish second ahead of his compatriots of Richard Atuya (30:19.29), and Onchari (30:29.15). Arita (30:31.07),and Itibo’s Evans Mataka (30:34.81) came home in fifth and sixth positions respectively.
In the women’s similar category, a new queen in the name of Faith Bett from Bokeira was unveiled. Bett cut the tape in 36.13.52 minutes to seal the victory ahead of Teresia Omosa (36.50.31), Christine Oigo (37:14.41), Gladys Oyero (38:12.15), and Tecklah Nyabuto.
