Nyali MP Mohammed Ali has launched a scathing attack on former Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and local legislators, accusing them of failing to deliver basic services to residents.

Speaking during a National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursary distribution exercise at Khadija Secondary School in Nyali on Saturday, July 31, 2026, Ali expressed frustration over decades of unfulfilled promises in the county, while also accusing Joho of planning to form a new political party if he fails to secure another government appointment.

“Tell that group of Ali Hassan Joho, stop sending those MPs, thirty-three of them, pretending to represent us while hiding in Malindi. They claim Joho will form his own party if not given a position in government,” Ali said.

Joho’s track record under scrutiny

The Nyali MP questioned Joho’s development record during his tenure as Mombasa Governor and current role as Cabinet Secretary.

“Didn’t he say Ruto is a thief? Didn’t he say Ruto is crazy? That he can’t hold a wheelbarrow? Now that he is holding the wheelbarrow, he is sweating, he is pushing hard,” Ali stated.

He accused Joho of using MPs to position himself as a political kingpin in Mombasa.

“Wasn’t he the governor here for ten years? What did he do for the people? Wasn’t he MP for Kisauni? What did he do for the people? Wasn’t he the one who became Assistant Minister? What did he do for the people? And even now he is a minister, but there is nothing happening for the people,” he said.

“You send MPs to say we want him (Joho) to be the kingpin. These MPs should tell me I am the kingpin of the poor here in Mombasa. Don’t you have it? You can’t always be planning to fill your stomachs. You don’t do anything for the people,” he added.

Critical needs ignored

The MP also criticised Joho for failing to raise critical issues affecting Mombasa residents when President William Ruto visited the county.

“The President came here to Mombasa. You didn’t tell him we need a hospital. You didn’t tell him we need industries. You didn’t tell him we need water. Today, Mombasa has no water. You didn’t tell the President anything. When he came here, you said President, we are behind Joho, we are with you. Where did you go?” Ali asked.

He accused local leaders of using political loyalty as an excuse for inaction.

“Instead of asking for a hospital, you are asking him to stand behind a person. It pains me, people. It pains me. It pains me. And we know their plan. Form a party if you want. You will get the people here. You will get the people here. The people will ask questions. Mohammed Ali, what have you done? I have done ABCD. What have you (Joho) done? You will tell us what you have done? The biggest thing we remember you have done is bringing Alikiba,” he said.

Ali called on Coast residents to elect leaders based on their track record and development agenda.

“Look at how people from other areas elect their leaders. Choose leaders like that. People understand,” he stated.
