Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua has hailed former Deputy Geoffrey Rigathi Gachagua for his resilience and courage.

In a statement on Sunday, January 26, 2025, Karua who was Raila Odinga’s running mate in the 2022 polls, explained that Gachagua had demonstrated great resilience despite facing various hostilities including his impeachment from the second-highest office in the land.

Karua argued that Gachagua’s qualities were crucial for pushing for nationwide unity aimed at tackling issues bedevilling the country.

“I salute your courage and resilience in the face of adversity, qualities that we need as we fulfil our joint commitment to rally together leaders from across the nation, to address the many challenges facing the people of Kenya,” Karua wrote in a statement.

The senior counsel while appreciating Gachagua and his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi for their visit, added that leadership was about service to the people and prioritising them in all decisions and policy directives.

Commits to work together

Further, Karua who is known to hold a very firm stance, expressed her commitment to working with the former Deputy President.

She, however, did not delve deeper into what their working relationship would entail.

“I look forward to working with you and wish you well in all your endeavours,” Karua wrote.

This comes after she revealed plans to launch a new political outfit, the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), in February 2025. Speaking on Saturday, January 25, 2025, when she hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at her Kimunye home in Kirinyaga County, Karua said that she had advised members of her political camp not to introduce themselves with the Narc Kenya that everyone knows because a new brand will be unveiled soon.

“You heard me telling my people not to introduce themselves with the name of the party you have known. I have been the leader of Narc Kenya, but we have rebranded. We will be launching our brand soon, next month in February, and the name is People’s Liberation Party (PLP). Na msifikirie tumeapply jana, we applied for those names in May last year, long before there were protests, but the process is just becoming complete,” Karua announced.

On the other hand, Gachagua has been leading a series of meetings at his Wamunyoro residents in Nyeri while contemplating his next move following the bitter fallout with his boss President William Ruto.

Both elected and former officials have visited Wamunyoro turning the little-known home into a center of political discourse.

With consultation still going on, Gachagua is expected to announce the way forward soon which is expected to shake the political landscape.
