March 28, 2025: Top news events to look out for today

Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Ruto’s Mt. Kenya tour
As President William Ruto plans to visit the Mount Kenya region, more reactions from several leaders are expected.
Given the shift in the political map after Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, the tour is highly anticipated as eyes will be keen to see how the president will be received.
Ruto will start his tour in Laikipia and Nyeri counties on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, and on Wednesday, April 2, he will be in Meru and Kirinyaga counties. On Thursday, April 3, the president will be in Nyandarua and Murang’a counties, and on his final tour, on April 4, he will be in Tharaka-Nithi County.
As his allies have hit the ground running preparing for the tour, some of the president’s critics have warned what the Head of State must do and what he must not while he is in the Mt. Kenya region.
This visit also comes after Justin Muturi was sacked as a Cabinet Secretary, raising the political temperatures even higher.
Matasi investigation
After the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi as an investigation into possible match-fixing fears emerged, soccer stakeholders are expected to keep debating the issue.
For long, fans have feared that some matches, even those involving Premier League clubs, have been fixed, and the Matasi investigation is set to increase those fears even more.
FKF said it will involve both FIFA and CAF in its investigation against the Harambee Stars goalkeeper.
Mashemeji Derby
The biggest club rivalry event is set to take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025, as AFC Leopards host Gor Mahia at Nyayo Stadium.
The anticipation is even higher as the match had been postponed two times before owing to lack of a proper stadium to host the game.
The match will be the highlight of a football-packed weekend as clubs return to action after the international break.
